University Offices Closed For the Holidays

While some students will be celebrating the end of the fall semester and the beginning of their holiday vacation other students like sophomore, Christopher Williams will be working hard withdrawing from Shaw University.

However, according to Registrar officials they are uncertain as to whether or not the office will be open during the Christmas Season.

Registrar officials aren’t the only ones left out of the scheduling loop; in fact, employees in the Bursars office, the cashiers, as well as the Office of Financial Aid are all awaiting response from the Office of the President to determine if services will continue over the break.

“I need to make sure Shaw isn’t trying to make me have a back balance on my account because I’m ready to go” said an eye rolling Williams. “What if my school has questions or need documents while I’m gone? Who am I suppose to call.”

Vice President for Fiscal Affairs, Thomas Poitier stated that he is certain that Fiscal Affairs will close on December 19, 2008 and will not reopen until January 4, 2009. “Although I will not be available in the office over the break, students can feel free to email me at tpoitier@shawu.edu. I will be checking periodically to provide students with any information I can.”

Though many students believe that this kind of information should have been communicated and provided to them ahead of time, other students like senior, Jonah Davis believes that the university faculty and staff deserves to take a break as well. “Don’t get me wrong the administration should be flexible in some situations.”

“Students have had an enormous amount of time to handle what ever business they needed to handle up until this point. We do work with our students but we are as restless as they are,” said Juanda Holley.

However, Poitier insist that all faculty and staff should at least be available via email in the event that there are emergency concerns that can be handled without any supporting documentation from the office.

“As long as all of my documents are ok for me to transfer I’m good to go,” said Williams.
