“Prepare to witness a stronger Shaw University next semester,” declared Associate Vice President of Enrollment Management, Dr. Mack Sowell.
Sowell is part of the university team who is responding to student concerns raised in the protest rally and march in early December.
With the spring semester approaching, some students are continuing to express the change they will like to see for the 2009 spring semester.
“I am expecting next semester to witness a better classroom environment, and instead of teachers reading straight from the text book; actually teach,” said Junior Porchelle Williams.
“I just want Shaw to bring back Indoor track,” said Sophomore Ferris Lewis.
While students expressed their thoughts for the new semester members of the university staff said they are listening.
Student Activities Director Ebony Johnson said,” I believe that our students have high expectations for the up and coming semester. I also believe that collectively, Shaw University’s faculty, staff, and administration will do everything in their power to meet these expectations.”
“Shaw’s Faculty are making sure that next semester experiences some change,” according to Associate Vice President of Student Affairs Paul Vandergrift
“We are hoping the residents of TOS men’s will be able to immediately return to their assigned dormitories for the spring semester,” Vandergrift said. TOS has been under repair following a flood last month.
Many students said they believe the university will follow-up on its promises and recapture what they said was an excellent reputation in years past.
Senior Karissa Garmon said, “I just want Shaw to bring back that passion for the students and safety for the students that the University granted me when first enrolling.”
