Student Leader Training Institute

There are many ways that you can define leader and what it means to be one.

The student leader programs such as, the Student Government Association (SGA), Student Development Coordinator (SDC), National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC) and Residence Advisor (RA) came together for the first Student Leader Training Institute.

“The institute is a way for the student leaders to build a positive team. It enhances personal and professional skills so they can become effective leaders,” said Student Activities Coordinator Ebony Johnson.

A series of workshops was conducted over the course of four days to help strengthen skills that are needed in their personal and professional life.

“A good leader is a team player who puts the interest of the group before there’s,” said Director of Residential Life and Judicial Affairs Agnes Baxter.

Agnes Baxter, Joyce Bannerman-Spruill and Ebony Johnson, collaborated the programs together so the students can help and learn from each other during the workshops.

Team building: marketing your organization: safety and security and first aid training where some of the topics discussed during the workshops.

“The workshops have given me ideas for programming for my residence,” said Residence Advisor Marvin Tiller.

A graduation ceremony was given at the close of the training. Each student leader was acknowledge and given a certificate for completing the first Student Leader Training Institute.

“It was a success. It’s given them a better understanding on how they can help their fellow students,” said Baxter.

The institute will be held every semester so that each student leader can benefit from the training and the workshops that are provided through the program.
