Snow Day Causes Mixed Emotions

Snow has been the cause of delays, reduced cafe hours and frustration for some Shaw students. The snow, which began to fall Friday night, left an icy mess on the campus that Sophomore Sociology major Tavion Jenkins says still has yet to be tended to. “There is still ice around the majority of the campus and that’s preventing me from taking a risk and going to classes,” said Jenkins. “I refuse to get hurt because someone neglected to lay salt or properly prepare for the weather.”

Freshmen Political Science major Chirae Simmons said she feels the snow isn’t to the point where classes should have gotten cancelled. “I’m from Detroit so I’ve seen worst then this little bit Raleigh just got over the weekend,” said Simmons. “The people who’ve never seen snow really trip me out, but overall, we should be lucky because we could’ve been snowed in-for real!”

Thompson Hospitality operated on their brunch schedule as usual this weekend, but the snow resulted in them shaving an hour off the time said Thompson employee. “We have to be considerate that our workers have somewhere to go; home, and that’s not on the campus of Shaw University,” the employee said.

Junior Athletic Training major James Jackson said he wouldn’t have mind the revised scheduling if the food selection was more appealing. “They give us the same thing every weekend and then because of snow, want to rush us to eat it,” said Jackson. “I feel like that’s selfish because we don’t control the weather, but they can control what they feed us and it shouldn’t be this repetitive.”
