While many criticized Shaw University for it’s seemingly lack of work in the months following the Tornado that devastated the Shaw University Main Campus, new additions are popping up all over the place.
Shaw University has faced criticism from all fronts from many who are frustrated by Shaw University’s recovery from the recent Tornado which caused the administration to end classes early last semester and caused substantial damage to the University. Former President Irma McClaurin noted in her last meeting with staff and faculty held in the Thomas J Boyd Chapel; that Federal Emergency Management Agency remarked that Shaw University has had one of the fastest recovery times due to the cooperation of it’s administration, staff and faculty.
During the aftermath and evacuation of the campus last year many campus departments were tested and many showed leadership .
Shaw University Students may have noticed some new additions on campus! “Our student body is growing and out transportation department is growing as well!”- Kevin Micheal, Transportation Coordinator. The Shaw University Transportation Department has added two new buses which brings the school’s total bus transportation fleet to nine buses. The Shaw University Transportation Department now has nine buses in all, six big buses with the biggest seating fifty eight people and the smallest seating twenty nine; two mini buses and two school buses.
The buses were purchased from Sawyer’s Bus Sales in Christiansburg Virginia. The department of Student Activities is second in usage of the Shaw University Transportation Department after Student Athletics. Transportation officials report that the transportation department has a 100% safety record and is now equipped to transport up to 300 students at a moments notice. To maintain their 100% safety record The Shaw University Transportation Department carries out two weeks of full maintenance each semester before the buses and vehicles are used by any department or student organization on campus.
