Like most famous media talk-show personnel, Wendy Williams often gets into trouble for meddling in other peoples affairs. On Friday Sep. 17, singer Leann Rimes was furious with Wendy Williams after she made jokes about Rimes’ affair with Eddie Cibrian during her talk show known as “The Wendy Williams Show.”
Wendy referred to Leann’s statement that Eddie’s sons were ‘her boys’. Wendy stated, “It’s all very sloppy … the boys have a mother, and her name is Brandi Glanville.” Leann saw this statement as ultimately trivializing her relationship with Eddie. The statements, along with jokes, caused controversy with fans on twitter. Rimes Responded to Wendy and fans in a twitter update;
“I’m incredibly disappointed to see someone with that kind of platform use it for such negativity and could be so mean and judgmental about a situation they know nothing about,” Rimes tweeted.
Williams has gained both support and negativity during her career. Reports from “The Wendy Williams Show” executive front office say that they wanted Williams to be a little less “Wendy” for the upcoming season so as to appeal to middle-America moms who are majority of her daytime show. This is important because not everyone prefers gossip and ridicule when watching daytime television.
Williams’ incident reminds us that, when one has a public platform, then they have the power to change other people’s views on certain issue based upon their own opinion. What we say and how we say it matters to many people. Ultimately, how one uses their platform when influencing a fan base reflects on what type of person one is when the platform lights go out. What do you think?
