So this past Saturday, a tornado ran through the Shaw University Campus. According to the Weather Channel and other numerous Weather Media Outlets, the tornado was a category F3. I will admit, physically seeing the tornado headed straight toward me was frightening.
Looking out of the fifth Floor window of TOS Women’s Dormitory, I could see the tornado headed right towards the building. I remember yelling to everyone that could hear me, “Get in the Stairwell!” Although I was so far away that I had to go into the bathroom and hide under the sink.
I am ever so grateful that me and my Shaw Family Members who were here on campus are alive and unharmed. Many of us lost vehicles, and a few personal possessions, but what greater a possession is there than life?
I am thankful that I am still here to assist my University with whatever needs to be done to reassure that the school returns to it’s previous state. I can only thank God for the survival of me, my peers, and many other faculty and staff members that were on campus during this catastrophic event.
