Two students were crowned Mr. and Miss homecoming on October 7th at 6 p.m. marking the traditional kick off of homecoming week.
Mass Communication major Carol Johnson, the new Miss Homecoming said, “I was happy to accept the nominations and excited to represent the school during homecoming week.”
Computer Information Systems major Eric Jamison who also minors in Business Administration is Mr. Homecoming. Jamison said, “It was both a privilege and honor to be selected as Mr. Homecoming 2008.”
This year presented a packed house at the Estey Hall auditorium, where organizers says about a hundred people were in attendance, including Dean of the Chapel, Dr. Quincy Scott, Dr. Herman Thomas, Vice President of Academic Affairs Thomas, and Executive Vice President Martel Perry.
There appears to be some confusion about how the homecoming King and Queen were chosen. Although Ebony Johnson, Director of Student Activities confirms the Homecoming King and Queen needed to have a 3.0 average or better, she would not confirm if the students were chosen by ballot or selected by university officials.
Johnson serves as a member of the 2008 Mr. and Ms. Homecoming crowning committee. “I was very pleased with the presentation of the organizational kings and queens and the Mr. and Ms. Homecoming 2008 elects,” said Johnson.
University officials say you can expect to see both Jamison and Johnson at all the homecoming events as well as athletic events through out the year.
