HIV Awareness Day

The Student Development Coordinators of Shaw University in conjunction with Wake County Human Services presented September 21 2009, HIV and STDs Awareness Day at Chavis Park. Free food and free testing was provided for the community.

The objective of he event was for students and the community to come together to learn about the different STD's and different ways you can stay protected.

"Its was important to me as a young black man if my partner and I was having intercourse, I would like to know her status because its good for us to know , either get tested or don't know at all, said Jerry Clyde, Sociology major.

Junior and SGA/SDC student leader, Teresa Jackson stated, "As a student leader wanting to show students it's important to protect yourselves and it's important for them to do it too."

According some students, this event was informative and a great way to get the community and students involved. It gave out valuable and neccessary information. Testing will continue every first and third thursday of each month.
