Fly Feathers
We wanted to talk about an interesting fashion trend on campus, Feather Earrings! Inspired by the Native American culture they have taken over Shaw's Universities campus. Feather Earrings are earrings that hang from a piece of silver or metal that is either an actual feather or a metal version of a feather.
The earrings come in all sizes; from sizes that hang all the way down to your shoulders length to as short as the average earring. The earrings also come in a different assortment of colors and designs to match your everyday outfit; they can also accentuate a nice dress for a night out on the town. Some girls like to wear both earrings, while some like to wear just one. Wearing one earring, achieving the Native American or Bohemia look, takes the trend to the next level.
You can catch several girls walking around with this trend on campus. It's surprising to see how many young ladies have taken to this new organic style of earring trend. I had a chance to catch up with a few ladies to ask them why they liked to wear them and how it ties into their style outfits. First, I had a chance to catch up with Junior, Khloe Washington. She was sporting a pair of black, red, and gold, shoulder length feather earrings that hung all the way down to her shoulders. "I love to pair these earrings with a black or white shirt instead of the typical red shirt, that's too matchy matchy", she laughed.
I also bumped into Demetria Barret, Senior, and asked her what's so special about feather earrings that makes her love them so much. "I love how I can wear my earrings with a outfit in the daytime while at work and then still keep them on for a night out on the town with a dress", she said.
Both ladies told me that they wear their earrings at least twice a week. They also choose to wear the feather weight earring because it gives their earlobes a break from the heaviness of other fashionable earrings.
These earrings have also been seen not only in Raleigh, but other major cities. Almost everywhere you go you will see a woman with fabulous feathers dangling from their ears. This earring trend has also been seen on most celebrities who include Vanessa Hudgens, Drew Barrymore and Selena Gomez just to name a few. I also have a pair of feather earrings and I tend to wear them a lot as well. The trend is taking over the campus and I don't think it will stop anytime soon!
